Pecorino Cataldi Madonna 2011

The white wine Pecorino of Cataldi Madonna winery is an unexpected elegant version of the grape from which it takes its name. Luigi Cataldi Madonna has been able to process pecorino grapes creating a star wine of Abruzzo region, contributing to the recent revival of this vine forgotten for long time because of its low yield. The vineyards of Cataldi Madonna winery grow at a height of about 500 meters above sea level, near Mt. Gran Sasso, where they can enjoy a special microclimate. Luigi Cataldi Madonna works, as in his vineyard and as in cellar, with great dynamism, attribute that he usually likes to tie himself: first philosophy teacher, now estimated winemaker. In his work he prefers the research and innovation that led him to believe in the potential of a grape considered unsuitable for marketing, because of the properties of the vine and for its name, the same of an Italian famous cheese. The grapes pecorino owes its name to the small size of its berries, small enough to resemble a herd of sheeps.
